Sara Ramirez is a popular Mexican-American actress singer and songwriter. Her mother raised her in the USA in a place where she endured several racial stereotypes, which made her feel like someone who was not wanted. When she was in 9th grade she started to feel more comfortable after she was acknowledged by her teachers as a success for singing at a school's audition. Not only did she gain confidence from the experience however, she also re-evaluate her the direction of her career. When she was 22, she graduated from New York's Julliard School. At the age of 23 she began her career making her debut on Broadway in Paul Simon's The Capeman and in films in You've got Mail. The part in The Lad of The Lake became her greatest breakthrough, bringing her an award called the Tony Award in addition to praise from critics for her performance. The following year she was cast in the role of the character Dr. Callie Torres in ABC's Grey's Anatomy. This led to her gain more fame. She is known as a performer and has also released a single as well as an extended show. She is also an activist and works extensively in the field of LGBT rights.
